In her early 20s, Asmâa Hamzaoui leads an all-female Moroccan Gnawa troupe, Bnat Timbouktou, performing what until now has been a traditionally male repertoire. She began playing gimbri with her father’s ensemble aged six and has developed into a potent singer with a silvery voice and a warrior-like presence. A Top of the World in #154.
