Orkesta Mendoza
Curandero (Glitterbeat Records)
Emerging from the same scene in Tucson, Arizona that produced Giant Sand and Calexico, Orkesta Mendoza started in 2009 as a one-off tribute project to Cuban mambo king Pérez Prado, which proved to be too much fun to stop. Their latest album, Curandero, fuses ranchera, cumbia, son and boogaloo with a rock’n’roll heart in a style they call ‘indie mambo.’
