Dal:um are a Korean female duo playing two different kinds of zither –the deep-toned geomungo, struck with a stick and the plucked gayageum. Hwang Hyeyoung and Ha Suyean met in a traditional music ensemble but formed Dal:um to explore modern impulses. Moods are established then swiftly evolved, from bluesy rhythmic twangs to weightless, waltz-like tunes. Reviewed in the Aug/Sept 2021 issue (#170).
