Kidjo and the French-Lebanese composer Maalouf conceived this seven-part suite about the Queen of Sheba’s journey out of Africa to visit King Solomon in Jerusalem as the perfect vehicle to blend their two musical cultures. Kidjo sings with her usual grace and power while Maalouf’s arrangements, which weave classical, jazz and rock tropes into the Afro-Middle Eastern mix, are revelatory.
