The American-Haitian singer/multi-instrumentalist McCalla won a Songlines Music Award for 2019’s Capitalist Blues – and earns another nomination for the follow-up which combines original compositions and traditional tunes with snatches of dialogue as she movingly chronicles the challenges faced by the Haitian people and the island’s turbulent history of political unrest.
