What are you listening to?
Ghanaian gospel singers Ayamga Georgina Avaabo and Ernestina Soore Zuure. I love to learn from them, as their styles are different to mine. Gospel music is central to my life, as I’m director of the children’s choir at the Presbyterian Church of Ghana and perform at ceremonies with my band or a 40-50-piece women’s fellowship choir.

Your all-time favourite album?
Ashame Satan by Ayamga Georgina Avaabo.

Musician you most admire?
The late Stephen Asika, a gospel musician from my region, Bongo (northern Ghana). He had helped me so much. When I was looking to release my first album, he was there to encourage me. May his soul rest in peace.

Favourite new artist?
Yakubur Atorigo, an amazing musician who plays the kologo.

Memorable musical encounter?
In 2001, when I first met Stephen Asika at one of his shows. I was far from the stage, but drew myself closer. He took my hand and led me up on the stage where I started singing with him. A month later he invited me to the studio, where I featured on one of his tracks. Many doors became open to me after that.

First album you ever bought?
Stephen Asika’s debut, Winnam Kazemam Lobge (God Did Not Forsake Me).

If you weren’t a musician, what would you be?
A journalist.
