Coladera: João Pires, Miroca Paris and Vitor Santana
Tricontinental Lusophone group Coladera have launched their second album today, March 29, with a beautiful new video.
The trio – Brazilian singer and guitarist Vitor Santana, Portuguese singer and guitarist João Pires and Cape Verdean percussionist Miroca Paris – explore the stylistic middle-grounds between their three cultures whose inextricable connections were forged during the Atlantic slave trade.
Coladera’s second album, La Dôtu Lado, is officially released today on Agogo Records, together with a stunning video of their title track, sung by Santana. Simple but effective, the video features dancer Malu Figueirôa next to the sea, her movements reflecting the crashing of the waves and the bubbling of the surf. It’s the perfect accompaniment to the laid-back piece, which reflects rhythms from all across the Atlantic, from Brazilian samba and Cape Verdean coladeira and funaná to Cuban rumba and Spanish flamenco.
La Dôtu Lado is out now. You can stream or buy the album on Coladera’s Bandcamp page.
