Bluegrass dynamo Billy Strings has gone live with a video for his latest single, ‘California Sober’, a freewheeling collaboration with legendary country artist Willie Nelson, and the first fruit of his new partnership with Reprise Records.

Released to coincide with the great Nelson’s 90th birthday, the blistering tune sees the pair advocating a more abstemious lifestyle, while fighting shy of going completely cold turkey (‘I can't stay out and party like I did back in the day / So, I'm California sober as they say’).

The partial clean-up has clearly done nothing to alter Strings’ artistry, his trademark fretboard aerobics on ‘California Sober’ are as virtuosic as ever, while his crack band of accompanists and master co-star match him every bit of the way.

Billy Strings is currently on tour, with four UK dates scheduled for this November
