São Paulo’s Afro-Brazilian urban groove collective, Bixiga 70, have announced a new album, Vapor, to be released October 13 through Glitterbeat Records.
The band’s fifth album and their first in four years, Vapor has been described as a return and rebirth for the band, whose line-up went through a personnel change in 2022, its first major change since the band formed in 2010. Their baritone sax player Cuca Ferreira says: “It’s really different. It’s a reset, like re-founding the band. With new people, we had to get to know them and create music together. They brought different colours and ideas.”
The band have also announced two upcoming UK concerts, the first on October 18 at The Jazz Cafe in London, and the second on October 19 at The Blues Kitchen in Manchester.
The first single from their upcoming new album, ‘Malungu’, is out now, and features acclaimed Brazilian percussionist Simone Sou.
Bixiga 70 will perform in the UK on October 18 and 19. Vapor is available for pre-order here
