Some timely news for folk-loving festival-goers has reached Songlines HQ concerning the launch of two enticing happenings celebrating their curtain-raising editions this September. Such communications are especially well-received in light of the recent sad losses of such annual fixtures as Towersey, Underneath the Stars and Cleckheaton.

First to fill the culture void is Bungay Folk Festival, which will take place at various venues across the picturesque Suffolk town during the weekend of September 6-8. Organisers Pete and Vicky Sewell promise a community-focused event bursting with folk music, dance, workshops, food and drink, with headline acts including Sam Kelly and Jamie Francis, Solana and The Shackleton Trio.

Also popping their festival cherry are the Folk On The Coast crew, who will host an impressive line-up of legends at the Floral Pavilion on the Wirral from September 13-15. Tapping into the rich musical heritage of the surrounding region, the weekender plays host to, among others Martin Carthy, Martyn Joseph, Jackie Oates and John Spiers, as well as a full programme of talks, workshops and a special performance by the Mind The Step Appalachian Dancers.
