Introducing the March 2024 issue of Songlines
Celebrating 25 years of Songlines with a special, bumper-sized issue
The March 2024 issue (#195) of Songlines is out now. It’s a special, bumper-sized edition of the magazine to celebrate our 25th-anniversary. We look back at 25 years of global music with stories on Orchestra Baobab, Lhasa, Taraf de Haïdouks, Gaye Su Akyol, Souad Massi, Tinariwen, The Gloaming, Ondatrópica, Qawwali Flamenco and many more of our favourite artists, albums and stories from the past 25 years. We speak to Mariza for a My World interview to find out her formative musical influences, the prolific guitarist Justin Adams gets a Beginner’s Guide, we chat to both Sona Jobarteh and Taj Mahal about an upcoming US tour that unites the histories of griots and the blues. Feminist supergroup Les Amazones d’Afrique have a new album and we speak to the latest iteration of the collective. We head to Germany for a musical celebration of Kurdistan, find out about Syriana’s long-awaited second album, and appraise the importance of Shane MacGowan (he did more than just wrote good songs). Plus, the olllam, Lenhart Tapes in Belgrade, a new Sam Lee documentary, Gabba, Aron & The Jeri Jeri Band, as well as all the usual news, listings, reviews, competitions and so much more.
Print and digital subscribers will also receive our accompanying Top of the World compilation featuring our pick of the month’s best new music – Lagos Thugs, ØXN, Les Amazones d’Afrique, YĪN YĪN, Spell Songs, El Gato Negro, Amaro Freitas and more – as well as six special 25th-anniversary bonus tracks from Souad Massi, Ondatrópica, Warsaw Village Band, The Gloaming, Taraf de Haïdouks and Justin Adams.
