Les Aunties Give Good Vibrations
Hear the latest hypnotic single from the highly-touted all-female Chadian chant troupe

Check out the joyous Sara language exhortations and pat-a-cake polyrhythms impelling ‘Anina Yatou’ (Who Are We?), as Les Aunties urge unity and cooperation between disparate Chadian communities and the opening of honest dialogue between the nation’s politicians and citizens, in the hope of realising consensus on such issues as identity, spirituality, civil liberties, conflict and peace. Reflecting on the song’s essential message, the band themselves state: “[It’s about] what distinguishes us, what brings us together, what makes us Chadians.”
The hypnotic single, produced by AfrotroniX, precedes the release of Les Aunties’ soon-to-be finalised debut album (keep an eye open for a forthcoming review in Songlines) as well as the ensemble’s first ever live performance in their home country, which takes place on October 27.
