New video from Calypso Rose – 'Watina'
Watch the video for Calypso Rose's 'Watina', a new track featuring Santana and The Garifuna Collective, taken from her forthcoming full-length release, Calypso Rose Forever
The irrepressible Calypso Rose returns as she prepares to drop new album Calypso Rose Forever via Because Music on August 26. Across its 14 tracks, the release sees the iconic 82-year-old Calypso Queen joined by a bevy of stellar names, including the legendary Manu Chao, soca king Machel Montano, Jamaican dancehall icon Mr Vegas, Toulouse-based rapper Oli and electro duo Synapson.
Heralding this much-anticipated release is the first single to be lifted from it, 'Watina', a deeply cathartic cut inspired by the Caribbean's devastating history, paying homage to the Garifuna, a people scarred by slavery and erased from memory. Featuring the Belize-based outfit The Garifuna Collective (whose own version of the same tune was a local hit), plus some typically incendiary soloing from Carlos Santana, this hope-fuelled song has been specially set to some seductive Belize-sited optics for your audiovisual pleasure.
