'Viento Norte' (North Wind) was the first song that Soema Montenegro composed for her last album, Círculo Radiante, released in 2023 on Mais Um. It certainly sets the mood for the album, opening it as it does with the sound of crickets and a distant whistling before Soema's voice and her delicate guitar playing create the lightest of atmospheres, her voice radiating like the circle of the album title.

What's remarkable is that Montenegro achieves the same with this exclusive acoustic rendition of the track. What's more, it even accentuates the sense of this being a conversation between Montenegro and the titular wind. 'Viento norte, ¿Qué traes para mi?' (North wind, what do you bring for me?) she sings on the chorus, with the ultimate union arriving later when she and the wind seem to become one as the video fades out.

We are very excited to be bringing Soema to London as part of Songlines Encounters Festival at Kings Place. The festival will be happening from May 16 until May 19, with Montenegro performing on Friday, May 17 (tickets and more info here).
