Jasdeep Singh Degun is one of rising stars of the UK Indian classical music scene. A respected composer, the young artist works within the liminal space between the Indian and Western classical scenes (read more here).
His anticipated debut album, Anamoly, is due out via Real World Records on May 6 and he's already released a stunning video for the track 'Ulterior Motives'. But on Friday he released the latest single from the album, 'Sajanava'. The track is based on a thumri (a semi-classical love ballad) and features the vocals of Debipriya Das and Yarlinie Thanabalasingam, who represent both Hindustani and Karnatic styles of singing. The sentimental video reflects the duality of the singers with the dancing of Vidya Patel (kathak) and Anaya Vasudha (bharatanatyam).
Anomaly will be released on May 6 and launched at London's King Place on May 14. Stay tuned for a review of the album in the June issue (#178), on sale May 13
