Zakir Hussain joins Symphony Orchestra of India on UK tour
Critically-acclaimed ensemble from the sub-continent return for nine-concert series

Following their successful visit in 2019, the Symphony Orchestra of India return to the UK this winter for a nine-concert series, taking in trips to London, Birmingham, Edinburgh, Coventry, Bradford, Cambridge and Oxford, between November 29 and December 9.
The multinational ensemble, the sub-continent’s first and only professional orchestra, will present an alternating set of three separate programmes, featuring a broad-ranging repertoire including the European premiere of Zakir Hussain’s ‘Triple Concerto’, for tabla, sitar, bansuri and orchestra, alongside works by Brahms, Khachaturian, Rossini, Richard Strauss, Stravinsky and Wagner, plus an outing of the ‘Imperial March’ from John Williams’ Star Wars soundtrack.
Conducted by Alpesh Chauhan, Zane Dalal and Richard Barnes, with soloists including Hussain (tabla), Niladri Kumar (sitar), Rakesh Chaurasia (bansuri), Pavel Kolesnikov (piano) and Marat Bisengaliev (violin), the Symphony Orchestra of India stop off on the following dates: Warwick Arts Centre, Coventry (November 29); Cadogan Hall, London (November 30); Symphony Hall, Birmingham (December 1); St George’s Hall, Bradford (December 2); Usher Hall, Edinburgh (December 3); Fairfield Halls, Croydon (December 5); Corn Exchange, Cambridge (December 7); Cadogan Hall, London (December 8) and Sheldonian Theatre, Oxford (December 9).
