Now this album could well be lighting up summer 2019; its mix of Afrobeat rhythms and reggae vocals – with a funky, electro production – being the kind of thing that sounds best when blaring out of big speakers at outdoor festivals and parties. While DjeuhDjoah & Lieutenant Nicholson share the vocals – their voices are quite different, yet blend well – it's the combination of rhythms and lush, electronic melodies that are going to attract the most attention. With a strong jazz-funk pulse mixing with Afrobeat on several tracks – recalling both Stevie Wonder and Gilberto Gil – there is a tropical flavour to proceedings. The musicians are extremely fluid and as the groove builds, the vocalists sometimes fade, allowing funky jams to take precedence. As with many albums based around big grooves, certain tunes appear somewhat shapeless – that said, nothing here sounds like filler. They sing in French with an upbeat feel. Anywhere that plays tunes from this album will be a good place to relax and watch the party build.
