Her second full-length release, following 2014's crowd-funded Amber Sands, finds the Austrian-born, Sligo-based violinist and vocalist joined by Swedish percussionist Stefan Hedborg, Estonian bassist and pianist Marti Tärn and accordionist Hannah James from the UK, as well as guest musicians from Ireland, Bavaria and Austria. It's an intriguing mix of Irish, Swedish and Eastern European folk with traditional Austrian yodeling and classical Indian music – quite a range.
But while there were one or two tracks on the debut that might have felt a little contrived or over-adorned with samples, Attic Mornings is a considerably more convincing and seamless album; it's much more than a mere exercise in genre-hopping. ‘One Day’, for instance, grew from an initial jam in a shed in County Sligo with a couple of local hip-hop artists into a strikingly pretty and paradoxically pure-sounding piece.
