Orchestra Dolapdere, named after the quarter of Beyoğlu from which the musicians come, includes some top players – Veysel Imeci on kanun (zither), Hasan Demir on ud (lute) and Erman Kirikkulak on violin – and they each have their solo opportunities. The violinist occasionally plays high shrieks, which add to the excitement and everyone joins on vocals on a couple of tracks. The track sequencing could be more satisfying than it is, but this is nonetheless a fabulous album from a brilliant group that bursts with energy and exuberance.
