Not only have this youthful Norwich-based folk/Americana trio independently released their rather lovely debut album, but each copy features a cover designed and hand-printed by the band, which fits the delightfully intimate feel of the music contained within. Christina Alden (vocals/guitars), Alex Patterson (violin/mandolin) and Noel Dashwood (dobro/vocals) have individually played in three other Norwich acoustic outfits, The Woodland Creatures (Alden), Murphy's Lore (Patterson) and Dumbfoundus (Dashwood), but this combination is very obviously something of enormous promise. There are clear folk influences from both sides of the Atlantic and you could be forgiven for assuming the opening title-track is something they’d come across from Appalachia. But this is mostly original material, with Alden's pure, calm and clear vocals effectively complemented by the rippling and eddying music of her two cohorts, while the songs themselves are full of images of water. On this impressive showing, this trio really could ride the current wave of UK Americana appreciation to somewhere very special indeed.
