Freshly Squeezed Music

Apr/May/2014

This is the work of DJ Marc Stylus, resident disc spinner with the freaky immersive theatre company Copperdollar. Emerging out of Lost Vagueness, the late-night vaudeville circus that used to grace Glastonbury Festival, the company is heavily influenced by the Mexican Day of the Dead celebration. The natural partner to that is, of course, Latin music. This set brings together an eclectic mix. There are plenty of remixes, and producers and DJs messing with Latin sounds. There is a track from British producer Will ‘Quantic’ Holland and Chilean singer Ana Tijoux, DJ Farrapo & Yanez's ‘Mojito com Cachaca’ is featured, and there are even vintage Colombian rhythms from Lucho Bermudez y su Orquesta. But this is global dance music more than purely Latin American, and as such most vocals are in English. There are other styles, from the ‘Skankin’ Riddim’ of Omegaman to Al Lindrum & Frederik Bohling's snaking clarinet and looped vocals. All in all, it makes for a decent Latin-heavy dance floor soundtrack.
