If you ever needed proof that music can be transportive, then this is it. From the moment the groove drops on opening track ‘El Disfraz’ it's like you're being snatched away to a backyard barbeque in 30-degree heat, a group of Latin American migrants playing as the alcohol and food flows. Led by accordion and roving bass lines, with plenty of percussion to shift through the gears, this is the sound of rural cumbia and vallenato. Very Be Careful, who hail from Los Angeles, have been releasing records since 1998 but they've never released an album that sounds as good as this. The production is spot-on, every instrument is defined, has space, and it all sounds smooth, like aural treacle. And it's got grooves galore, weaving between cumbias, paseos and their own peculiar variations, such as the ominous ‘Dos Corazones’, shot through with an infectious bonhomie that buzzes through the accordion and vocals, but also with a dose of longing.

The group is led by two second-generation Colombians and the passion that has been imbued within them for Colombian music of the 1950s and 60s is palpable: they are rediscovering their roots and having a great time in the process.
