Elin Jonsson is a fiddle player from the north of Sweden making her solo debut with this new release. Growing up in a family of folk musicians, fiddle playing is in her blood, and traditional music and dance was just everyday life for her. She is fascinated by the folk music of the Nordic countries and she has studied in Stockholm, at the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki, the Ole Bull Academy in Voss in Norway and at the Danish National Academy.
In creating her own musical identity she has embraced technology, with tunes from her Swedish heartland and beyond providing rich material for improvisation and looping, and inspiration for her own compositions. The eight tracks here cover everyday experiences, whether making coffee in the forest or watching a documentary about the sea. In ‘Beluga’ she explores some particularly beautiful and delicate harmonies and textures giving the feel of a precious and intimate duet. The title-track (The Dreamer), builds into some really effective exchange of voices, and the final lullaby ‘Sov Gott’ ends with a gentle smile. A thoughtful and carefully created musical journey.
