One of the finest bands on the Scottish folk scene returns with their fourth studio album, the atmospheric and thoroughly evocative Dusk Moon.

Opening with the beautifully cinematic ‘Journeys Home’; soft piano giving way to reflective guitar before a rousing pipes finale, Dusk Moon immediately promises a passionate and thoroughly Scottish sound.

The boys are known for their slow burning tune sets and these are a plenty on this album. The title track weaves a magic spell with fiddle, pipes, flute and guitar proving a hypnotising combo, while ‘The Grove’ delivers a fiery, sweaty dance guaranteed to raise the roof. ‘The Crossing’, especially, will ensure a twirl or two on the dancefloor.

‘Think of Today’ is a softer, more contemplative tune, and ‘The Soft Mist Over All’ finds RURA in a romantic, almost sentimental mood, at least, that is, before the pipes kick in. Perhaps the album would have benefited from a few more introspective tunes, but the boys excel at rousing finales.

Throughout Dusk Moon, the nine tracks of self-penned tunes provide that rare, sublime, blend of Scottish melodies, sounds and attitude, combining them well with a contemporary mood. An invigorating and beautifully crafted new release.
