This singer-songwriter (and author) was keen to make her 13th album ‘a real band album’ after the experience of recording its predecessor, , virtually during lockdown in her native Brazil. What comes across from the eleven songs that roam across diverse styles and genres is the sheer joy of interacting with fellow musicians. Indeed, watching the creative chemistry of her backing trio on stage in Porto inspired her to write ‘Horário de Verão’, the album's first single. ‘Nômade’, the final track, ends the album on a deliciously off-kilter note, with blasts of brass dislocating an otherwise classic and typically melodic song. It's indicative of a palpable sense of Tom Waits throughout. Fortunately, the singer sounds nothing like him – she has a warm, engaging voice that invites you in – but there's something about the often startling arrangements: the resonant double bass, parping trumpets, clacking percussion and rasping trombones. The songs themselves are rich with a sense of melancholic saudade and infused with echoes of choro, samba-cancão, bossa nova and other indigenous forms. The quirky ‘Larga Tudo’, is just one of many stand-outs on this sensuous and thoroughly delightful album.
