Meril Wubslin’s fourth album, born from a crossroads between Brussels and Lausanne, unfolds as a captivating sonic odyssey. Recorded at Kwake Bass’ Studio in London, the trio – Christian Garcia-Gaucher, Valérie Niederoest and David Costenaro – continue to push musical boundaries and provoke with rhythmic loops, inquisitive guitars and deep vocal harmonies.
The album commences with ‘Un Calme’ introducing unsettling distortions and drum beats that evolve into monotonous guitar loops and vocals. ‘Tout est Curieux’ evokes feelings of a slow march with a deep vocal harmonic hum of past narratives. ‘Grands Espaces’ triggers feelings of a melodic meander across the vast open plains, caressed by a burning wind, while ‘La Main’ guides listeners into a trance with drums and piano. ‘Les Pensées’ offers more looped guitar and whispered thoughts, sustaining the album’s intrigue. The album concludes with ‘L’eau Monte’ portraying rising flood waters, amid deep-diving vocals and strings and percussion that could feel at home in North Africa.
Meril Wubslin’s musical venture remains on course, delivering a nine-track album that feeds the curious, offering a harmonious blend of diverse inspiration and captivating encounters.
