The solo debut from award-winning bluegrass fiddler Keith-Hynes of Mile Twelve is not merely a showcase for her own prodigious talents but also a soulful celebration of her first year living amid Nashville’s bright bluegrass scene, with the collection of original and traditional fiddle tunes and songs featuring guest luminaries including Sierra Hull, with vocals from Tim O’Brien, Sarah Jarosz, Chris Eldridge, Laura Orshaw and James Kee.
Four of the six instrumental tracks, including the collection’s lively scenesetter ‘Hendersonville Hop’ and debut single ‘Open Water’, a sparky fiddle and mandolin duet with Sierra Hull, are originals while the two additional instrumentals are a twin fiddle take on the Bill Monroe/Vassar Clements classic ‘Fiddler’s Pastime’ and a fiddle and banjo duet with album producer Wes Corbett of the Sam Bush Band on old-time tune ‘Happy Hollow’. Nashville hero Tim O’Brien performs a new melody he wrote to the Thomas Moore poem ‘The Minstrel Boy’, as well as harmonising with James Kee on classic bluegrass numbers ‘Hello Trouble’ and ‘I Don’t Know Why’. Sarah Jarosz sings the heck out of Peter Rowan’s bluesy ‘Last Train’ and Chris Eldridge offers a striking version of John Hartford’s ‘Natchez Whistle’.
