The Argentine element comes courtesy of guitarist and composer Carlos Moscardini, a giant in that country’s folk music history. Berlin native Nora Buschmann supplies the German connection. A solo guitarist of considerable renown, Buschmann is an expert in studying and absorbing diverse musical traditions. Here, she honours Moscardini with interpretations of an extensive selection of his pieces. Buschmann’s playing is mercurial, her technique flawless and, at times, jaw-dropping – the slower-tempo numbers she approaches with an appropriately romantic, swaying grace. When the impressive cast of side-players step in, the sonic palette opens up beautifully, adding bandoneón, clarinet and trumpet. Singer Emilia Danesi puts in a special guest appearance. Those at all interested in traditional Argentine music will want to give this one a spin. High class acoustic Argentine delights.
