Jess Distill, Hannah Elizabeth and Katy Pilkington discovered a mutual love of folk music after spending their school years together in Hertfordshire. Despite their evident youth, they already have a self-released EP (Of Maids and Mariners) and a well-received debut album (A Curious Tale) to their credit, along with some impressive awards and support slots. One of the many virtues of Here's a Health is its pervading glow of freshness and the shared thrill of the group in discovering and revitalising these songs together.

This new collection showcases their signature soaring a capella harmonies and encouragingly, there are some promising original tunes, including a revisiting of their jolly sea-shanty style ‘Polly Can You Swim?’, previously rendered live on Of Maids and Mariners, amid vivid new arrangements of traditional English, Scottish and American folk songs of love, ghosts and murder. Alongside these are some contemporary covers – including the splendidly peculiar Tom Paxton song ‘Jennifer's Rabbit’ and Richard Farina's oft-covered ‘The Quiet Joys of Brotherhood’.
