Hidden Waters showcases the cream of Rio de Janeiro's thriving music scene, moving between samba, bossa nova, Candomblé, jazz and lo-fi rock. Expect infectious vocal hooks, tasty guitar licks, hip-shakin’ beats, groovy basslines, red-hot keys and an avant-garde edge throughout.

Ana Frango Elétrico kicks things off with the soulful ‘Saudade’ before Pedro Fonte delivers fuzzy-disco-party vibes on ‘Clichê’. Exército de Bebês jazz-funk jam for three of five minutes on the fabulous ‘Avós da Experiência’. After the uplifting ‘Amélie’ by Mari Romano are the glitchy beats and Glasper-esque piano of ‘SIGO NUM SITE/MÁRMORE’ by ROSABEGE, followed by the dreamy vocals and haunting horns of Dora Morelenbaum's ‘Vento de Beirada’. Cadu Tenório & Juçara Marçal change the mood with ‘Candombe – La Cacundê Iauê’. Haunting and discordant, the echoed vocal loops melt into drums that glitch and rumble like distant thunder. Vovô Bebê rocks your socks off on ‘Briga de Família’ before Joana Queiroz delivers stunning vocals over woodwind.

Compiled by Sounds and Colours, Hidden Waters is a fresh addition to any playlist this summer.
