Sarves Thiru is a Malaysian-born singer now based in London. She’s studied Carnatic singing and says: “I hope that people can find peace, healing and joy through the music I create.” As the title suggests, this really isn’t music for listening to, more for meditation. It’s pretty repetitive and minimal, although there are some nice bansuri flute solos (although no player credited) alongside bland guitar and piano accompaniments and plenty of reverb. Each of the seven tracks is dedicated to a different Hindu deity or prayer. Perhaps best is ‘Shiva: Om Tryambakam’ with percussion hinting at Shiva’s dance. The worst is ‘Day and Night: Sri Ram’ with lyrics in English and a banal repeated melody reminiscent of those Hare Krishna troupes you sometimes encounter on the street. From time to time there are some nice vocal ornamentations, but mostly it’s sickly sweet.
