60s rock meets Hindustani sounds and Sufi lyricism in this album of bright colours and youthful euphoria. Karma Sheen is the first album of this London band of the same name. Sameer Khan’s dextrous vocals glide through eight high-spirited, lively tracks, with catchy riffs from the sitar and electric guitar playing of Rod Bourganos and Amad Chima respectively (try ‘You Will Be Loved’ and ‘Bageshree’). And in truth, there’s nothing to particularly disagree with or dislike from this peppy and vibrant album – I just couldn’t help but feel this music is best seen live. Brash is likely too strong a word, but the music packs a punch through the stereo system – try the explosive drum solo in ‘Mian Ki Jive’. Perhaps instead, the listener might benefit from nodding their heads near the stage, rather than sitting idly by a speaker. An album of joyful noise.
