The four daughters of the Reverend Sam McCrary (leader of noted gospel group The Fairfield Four) have built quite a reputation in Nashville as the gospel group to go to for adding some soulful flavour to country, soul and rock recordings. On Let's Go the sisters step up to the front and the results are stunning. Growing up in a gospel household, the regular singing in church has given them the perfect training and, in true gospel tradition, they rock the house. Producer and guitarist Buddy Miller, a progressive country musician who has worked with Robert Plant among others, keeps the sound pure and simple.
Where much contemporary US gospel copies the sound of R&B and rap, Miller features the McCrarys either a capella or backed by a roots band who never get in the way of the voices. This is music full of excitement and passion, music that conveys the pleasure of singing and a deeply felt engagement with the family's Christian faith. Every tune leaps out, rich in spirit and full of beauty and wonder. For fans of gospel, American roots music and glorious voices, Let's Go is a genuine treat.
