July/2018

After a four-year hiatus, Trampled by Turtles return with a highly anticipated new album, a release that captures and refines the group's quintessential sound. Dave Simonett leads us through the album with his emotive storytelling, enhanced by the rich vocal harmonies of his bandmates, at times reminiscent of the vocal stylings of Fleet Foxes. ‘Kelly's Bar’ kicks off the album with a raucous duel between banjo (Dave Carroll) and fiddle (Ryan Young). Other highlights include ‘We All Get Lonely’, an intimate expression of the lonesome quality of American folk, ‘Annihilate’, a tour de force of screaming fiddles and driving banjos, and an unusual interlude with the ‘punkgrass’ ‘Blood In The Water’.

While capturing the feel of a spontaneous live session, it's clear this album has been carefully crafted. Its eclectic influences, sophisticated arrangements and rich visual imagery deliver a sense of freedom symbolic of the title's ‘open road’.
