The Isle of Skye-based Peatbog Faeries have been a staple on the Scottish trad scene for 25 years now, and their infectious brand of Celtic experimentation has waned not a jot. They have had a few line-up changes, which has kept the band fresh and vibrant, and Live @ 25 is their way to celebrate this rather special milestone. As they are best known as a live band, what better way to mark this milestone than with a live album? And what a treat it is too. Comprising a significant number of Faeries favourites, it opens with the funky ‘Dun Beag’ and captures the band at their very best. There's a little bit of everything here, from the rock infused sound of ‘The Ranch’, the chilled dance intro to ‘Jakes on a Plane’ through to the frenzy that is ‘Folk Police’, each track positively dripping with the energy of the crowd. Beautifully recorded, you can almost feel the sweat and rhythms as if you were there. Closer, ‘The Skyline of Skye’, is a special treat – a brand new track never previously recorded. Here's to the next 25 years.
