Mercury marks Miller's third solo album, but it is her first of entirely original material. And a talented songwriter it demonstrates her as too.

The title-track is a bouncy intro to what is an entirely pleasant and lively release. It's a fun album with some real catchy tunes with a somewhat transatlantic/jazzy vibe – see highlight ‘Sorrow When the Day is Done’ with its rather funky piano from John Lowrie. A more traditional Scottish sound is heard on ‘Strandline’ while ‘Keep Me Moving On’ presents a nimble piece of almost Scots-pop. ‘Losing’, on the other hand, is an effortless, almost ethereal, slice of melancholia. Closer ‘Let Me Mean Something’ is an effective and heartfelt love song, which takes, as does the whole album, memory as its theme.

Miller has attracted some notable guest stars too, including Eddi Reader on backing vocals, and Kris Drever on guitar. At Mercury's heart though are Miller's beautifully delicate vocals and this alone this makes the release special. Add in her accomplished talents as a songwriter and lyrical compositions and you have a very charming delight indeed.
