BNegão is known for his vocal work primarily with stoned rap-rockers Planet Hemp and his own band Seletores de Frequência. Here, he reworks and reshapes primarily tracks from his past to create this debut album solely under his own name. The focus here is the African influence on Latin American music, so a track like ‘Tudo Na Esquema (Pensamento Libertário)’ combines cumbia, samba-reggae and mariachi horns. On ‘Essa é Pra Tocar No (Heavy) Baile’, co-composer Leo Justi recycles his catchy bass line from Heavy Baile’s ‘Catuaba’, combining it with the original’s horns to relocate the track in the morros [hills] of Rio de Janeiro at a Saturday night rave. The political satire in ‘A Verdadeira Dança Do Patinho’ from the Seletores debut album is turned into heavy metal pagodão baiano with BaianaSystem at the controls. It’s not all so frenetic, ‘Sorrisa Aberto’ concludes the album with an exquisite mix of stripped-down dubby samba and curimba.
