November/2020

Floating with vulnerability and enchantment, this Swedish and German duo follow both jazz and folk influences to provide us with a reflective, intricate sound of rich empathic vocals and warm engaging cello. Nattflykt is a self-composed album emerging from an early 2020 collaboration between David Floer and Sofia Talvik, and it offers songs that can travel on the summer breeze, stir memories of walks through the forest or emotions of being lost in stormy seas. Talvik has an established back catalogue of solo albums with ventures in Americana and folk, while Floer is a classically trained cellist. This album offers another deeper level of connection with Talvik’s Swedish roots and reveals a greater intensity and melancholy through her vocals. The duo’s willingness to embrace and touch difficult subjects is intentional with tracks like ‘Hej Då’ (about the #MeToo movement) and ‘Sjung Min Lilla Naktergal’ (about immigration).

The refreshing arrangements of vocals and cello deliver a woven texture of contemplation. The melancholic and haunting vocals of Talvik offer light and depth to the ebb and flow of the cello. The album offers the perfect soundtrack to a long gaze through the window or Sunday morning coffee.
