Colombian duo Oscar Alford (producer) and Andres Mercado (percussion) return after four years with their second album – an intriguing set of tracks exploring the concept of night. Opener ‘Deja’ builds from an echoing palette of synth washes, ominous chords and processed voice to embrace pulsing tones reminiscent of Mike Oldfield’s work. ‘Alfa Indi (feat Nelda Piña)’ adds up-tempo, house-style beats and off-kilter swirls. ‘Candela Tu Trá (feat Tomás Llerena)’ continues the trend with fast-paced rapped vocals over a deep-bass driving rhythm. It’s all nicely done, but be aware – the balance of this folktronica set falls firmly on the ’tronica side – the appealing vocals playing second fiddle to rumbling hardcore flows eminently designed for the dancefloor. For a free-wheeling social gathering, this music would be perfect. It’s a record destined for moving feet. Body swaying beats for nighttime adventures.
