This album is the latest Thai release from Japan's EM Records and marks a departure from previous reissues of Thai luk thung and molam, mainly from the vast catalogue of hits written and composed by veteran Surin Paksiri. Thai rappers Juu and his protégé G Jee joined forces with Japanese hip-hop group stillichimiya and their producer Young-G to make a series of recordings that feature hip-hop and trap combined with samples and loops from some classic Thai luk thung and molam tracks.
Some of the lyrics extol the virtues of marijuana and the songs feature lyrics in Thai, Japanese and English set to tracks that chop and change at will. Apparently, some of this is a criticism of global capitalism but that's not clear to the listener. Just throwing everything into the wok and moving it around doesn't guarantee that great music will be produced. Sometimes too many cooks really do spoil the broth.
