The supergroup of Le Vent du Nord and De Temps Antan came together a few years ago to tour, but this is their first recording ’ and what a satisfying recording it is. It's not as though each band isn't excellent in their own right, but collectively the musical joie de vivre is off the charts.
The eight-strong line-up includes some of the best traditional-style Québécois musicians of the younger generation. It should be no surprise then that they're already collecting accolades, taking Québec's 2018 Prix Opus for Concert of the Year in the World Music category.
On this recording, the rich harmony singing and crisp instrumental work are consistently strong, and as a bonus, the album holds a few fun surprises ’ the propulsive ‘Rose’, for example (based on a French-Canadian legend about the hazards of dancing with the devil). Although high energy rules the day, there are also moments of gentleness, for instance the plaintive a capella ‘Le Sort des Amoureux’, and the sweet ‘Verse Verse’. Chances are that most who hear this recording without knowing the backstory would assume the group was conceived of as one from the very beginning ’ it's that well executed, and that assured.
