Infectious grooves, Afro-funk riffs and hip-hop attitude! RAH & The Ruffcats are definitely paying a vibrant and up-to-date tribute to Afrobeat. Composed of eight musicians, since 2007 the Ruffcats have become essential in Berlin as a result of their improvised jams and noteworthy collaborations. Adding to their ranks, we’ve now got Rapturous Apollo Helios or RAH (aka Ndubisi Onyediecke), with whom they performed ‘Shifting Sands’ in 2017, a feel-good soul-jazz jam that you can also find on their Live in Berlin (2024) album. The pandemic stalled them from working together, but now they are finally releasing a joint album telling RAH’s journey, from the Nigerian region where he grew up to the German capital where he lives today. Supported by Jochen Ströh, an engineer who worked for Ebo Taylor and Pat Thomas, the superband offer a fresh and authentic recipe, though widely inspired by the timeless West African tunes of the 70s. The most joyful ingredients of highlife and Afrobeat are brought together in this exquisite Orile to Berlin, perfect to celebrate the summer!
