The unlikely inspiration for this exuberant Latino tribute to the songs John Fogarty wrote for his band Creedence Clearwater Revival was the adoption of ‘Bad Moon Rising’ as an unofficial anthem by supporters of the national Argentinian football team. It turned out that Creedence's hits of more than 40 years ago remain huge all over Latin America and ‘Bad Moon Rising’ is here retooled energetically by Ozomatli. It's just one of many classic songs by the band given a Latino makeover by a well-balanced cast list that mixes established names and upcoming artists. Proving that a good song can hold its own in any language or style, Spanish-language singing star Bunbury re-fashions ‘Run Through the Jungle’ as ‘Corre por la Jungla’, a thrilling salsa dance explosion. Argentinian rockers Los Enanitos Verdes turn ‘Travelin’ Band’ into a turbo-charged burst of tropical rockabilly, while Bang Data fuse rock, rap and cumbia on ‘Fortunate Son’. Colombia's Diamante Electrico reinvent ‘Up Around the Bend’ as an intriguing slice of South American prog-rock and Los Lonely Boys cook up a Latino-swamp-rock gumbo on ‘Born on the Bayou’. Mexican superstar Juan Gabriel gives ‘Have You Ever Seen the Rain’ a south-of-the-border twist. Party records don’t get much more fun than this.
