Ritmo Satánico

The Madrid-based label has assembled this collection of a cool dozen vocal and instrumental tracks from the late 60s to 80s by a Peruvian six-piece combo that specialised in a jangly twin-guitar form of tropical cumbia. Originally released on the Sonoradio label, all the tracks were written by the lead guitarist, Marino Valencia. And therein lies the rub. As good as the music is – and individual tracks have found their way onto various compilations – it’s very much a single-track sound that leaves you craving a little less twang and a little more variety.
