June/2020

This is Lakvar's debut album and it demonstrates the full range of their folk and musical credentials. The first track, ‘Csubri’, opens with engaging vocals and pulls you into the driven frenzy of rhythm and sounds of Eastern Europe as the band puts down a marker on their ability and intentions. The group is founded by Hungarian-Bulgarian singer Hajnalka Péter and Georgian composer and guitarist Zura Dzagnidze. They are supported by a comprehensive line-up that includes Hungarian jazz bass player Péter Papesch, Bulgarian-Turkish percussionist Tayfun Ates, German jazz violin player Florian Vogel, Italian drummer Santino Scavelli and Lithuanian accordion player Aleksejs Maslakovs. The album demonstrates the range of cultural influences of the musicians involved, providing an Eastern Europe kaleidoscopic adventure that includes progressive rock, traditional folk, jazz and experimental influences. The album can sometimes feel lost between searching for their sound and the determination to explore every possibility of their musical talent. Hajnalka Péter's growing vocal reputation is evident throughout as she stitches the songs together, awakens the senses and provides everything from energy, vibrancy, softness and intrigue that complements and allows space for the musical melodies and diverse rhythms.
