This is an intriguing set in which classic songs from the folk-rock era of the late 60s and early 70s are given a jazz work-over by that fine saxophonist Sean Khan and his band. The best track is the Pentangle classic ‘I’ve Got a Feeling’, featuring the veteran Pentangle vocalist Jacqui McShee, still in fine voice on this breezy reminder that jazz, along with folk and the blues, was part of Pentangle’s eclectic mix. Elsewhere there’s a cool, brooding treatment of Nick Drake’s ‘Parasite’, with laid-back vocals from the Leeds singer Kindelan, and a re-working of John Martyn’s ‘Solid Air (feat Rosie Frater-Taylor)’, dressed up with fine sax work. The three instrumentals include a tribute to Sandy Denny with an atmospheric treatment of what is now titled ‘Who Knows Where the Time Comes’. My only complaint is that the exquisite Irish melody ‘She Moved Through the Fair’ is matched against a frantic barrage of percussion.
