There was an impressive self-titled EP last year from this Canadian power-folk trio but their live-sounding, full-length album debut is an even better representation of the sort of roof-rattling performances that had promoters and punters queuing up to fete them during this year's Folk Alliance showcase event. Despite their evident youth, The East Pointers are steeped in traditional Celtic music. The cousins Chaisson – banjoist Koady Chaisson and fiddle player Tim Chaisson – hail from Prince Edward Island on Canada's East Coast and are the seventh generation of an illustrious musical family. Guitarist Jake Charron has strummed, plucked, and played piano alongside an impressive list of award-winning performers while based in Ontario. Determined to make music that reflects their own present and future while remaining true to their roots, all of the ten tunes here are original. Unlike the all-instrumental EP, three of the tunes feature lead vocals by Tim Chaisson. Furiously energetic yet organic, celebratory yet cool, this is an impressive calling-card for a band who are soon likely to be making waves around the world.
