Sonido Verde de Moyobamba was a five-piece band formed in 1980 by virtuoso Peruvian guitarist Leonardo Vela Rodriguez. Originating from the northern Peruvian city of Moyabamba, on the fringes of the Amazon Basin, the band produced some of the catchiest and most compelling sounds of the cumbia amazónica dance genre. This eponymous album comprises eight, predominantly instrumental tracks taken from Sonido Verde de Moyobamba's previous albums released between 1981 and 1987.

They’re all solid dance sounds, which should get both new and old-school cumbia fans on their feet. It also makes a handy companion to the compilation Peru Selvático album jointly released by the same label [see below], which includes a couple of different tracks by this band too.
