Vazesh is an Australia-based trio that brings together an unexpected combination of instruments. At the heart of the sound is the Persian tar, played by Hamed Sadeghi. Born in Iran, Sadeghi is a classical Persian music performer and composer who draws on the Iranian radif tradition. Sadeghi’s tar is joined by the saxophone and bass clarinet of Jeremy Rose and the double bass of Lloyd Swanton, the three musicians producing long-form improvisations that are deeply immersive. Tapestry is the trio’s second album. Their 2021 debut – The Sacred Key – was a recording of a live performance at Sydney Opera House. This album was recorded in just one night of improvisation so, although it’s a studio production, it has a live quality to it, its deep, dark tar-driven jazz full of unexpected twists and turns.
