The granite massif of Dartmoor runs as a giant seam through the consciousness of South West England – a beautiful, untamed and often unnerving country. It also runs as a seam through the work of Devon folk musician Seth Lakeman. It’s a wild and disorientating place, where myth and legend seem to seep from the bogs and rocky tors. In this new collection of tracks, Lakeman once more delves deep into Dartmoor and the seas surrounding Devon for tales of love, loss and the supernatural. There is always something insistent in his delivery. Many tracks have a driving pace, fuelled by his fiddle, but even on the more reflective numbers, there is still a straining tension. That taut sound is brought together by many of his usual collaborators, including Benji Kirkpatrick on a host of strings, Ben Nicholls on bass, Cormac Byrne on percussion, and Alex Hart on backing vocals.
